Event overview
Faith & Reason events take place six times a year (three times a semester) on second Fridays from 6-8pm at Cornerstone Boulder. Each event includes a catered dinner (e.g., pizza, salad, drinks), a ~40-minute video lecture (or montage) by experts on the particular topic, and facilitated discussion in small groups of 6-8 people. The lecture is broken into 2-3 parts to more effectively facilitate attention, learning, and topical discussions of the content. Discussion facilitators (the Faith & Reason leadership team) take their group through a set of open-ended and personally-oriented discussion questions and create space for everyone to speak. Many find that the video lectures provide thought-provoking, educational content, and that the discussion group structure facilitates depth of conversation very quickly, while creating a safe space for everyone. Event admission is $5 per person and requires registration in advance.
Target audience
Faith & Reason is open to and designed for all ages, backgrounds, and worldviews. Discussion groups often span multiple generations. Respectful disagreement and diverse perspectives are warmly welcomed and encouraged. 40-80 people are expected at each event.
Content
Most event topics are sourced via popular demand from the community. The video lectures themselves are chosen by Faith & Reason’s leadership team, who vet lectures and dialogues of experts who provide thoughtful perspectives on the topics of interest and whether their posture aligns with the mission statement above.
